DiskCatalogMaker for Mac

value - 5 Would not be able to organize my files across multiple drives without this cataloging software. Very helpful. ease - 5 After you use long enough it's quite easy. features - 5 It has more features than I've taken advantage of yet. reliability - 4 For the most part has been great. There have been times when the database gets corrupted and the app freezes every time I launch, but it's only happened a couple times, and it's been fixed by starting a new database and rescanning everything, or going to an available back up. customer support - 5 Haven't need to talk to them yet, so we'll see

When Mac OS X replaced Mac OS 9, around turn of the millennium, I had to find a replacement for iOmega FindIt that didn't run on OS X. I tried half a dozen options. DCM stood head and shoulders above the rest. I've been using it since. It's robust, is constantly updated with the latest and has by far the most options. Also, it's a perpetual license.

DiscCatalogMaker RE came with my last copy of Toast, and has been around for a long time, which says a lot for an app's longevity. I also had a license many, many years ago for a competitor, and had forgotten about both of them when I had gotten a new computer so hadn't installed or used them for a while. Recently I needed to look up file content on some old storage drives. I remembered these apps, so I re-downloaded my Toast 20 and installed both catalogers on my machine to see which one I wanted to buy an update for, to start using again. When I dragged a hard drive into DiscCatalogMaker to catalog, I didn't see a progress bar and was ready to redo my steps, until I realized it had already cataloged it—it was that fast! That sold me, along with the clean GUI and straightforward usage. I just bought the full version, instead of using the RE that came with Toast. Great app!

This used to come bundled with CD software, and now I'm finally paying them back for years of helping me keep files straight on hundreds of burned CDs and DVDs and now TB hard drives. I was so glad to see this software was still out there and running strong. Love it.

Great App! Blazing fast results when searching for a file on a remote disk. Thankfully no subscription needed, just a one-time fee. Perfect!
